This painting was based on a previous painting produced last year. This painting was a commission piece for a return patron. The woman who bought the painting shares many of the same characteristics as myself, being a country girl as well. Originally from Calgary she just recently had a baby boy and wanted to decorate his room with a country theme.

The painting went through many stages which in the end I decided to simplify. I started with bulls and cactus in the background but it began to take away from the foreground cowboy. I also began with tighter, thinner shirt checkers but they weren't working. In the end I pulled it back and everyone was happy with the results. I think one of the key ingredients is the very lose background, it is consistent with my style and adds a nice contrast to the other elements of the painting.

I went really late to the opening party so I didn't get a chance to get a good look at the changes. The facade isn't quite finished but from what I did see it looks wonderful. The ora of the space really hasn't changed much which I wasn't expecting. After having a chance to visit the MOMA, Tate and The National Gallery in London this summer it is a huge improvement.

Fashion Sketch Paintings

I'm really happy to be painting again. These paintings are really simple. I started with fashion sketches and decided to produce painting to reflect the sketches. The paintings will be going up on Queen at Lowon Pope so I thought they would fit well. I'm also excited to get started on the next project which will be a large scale painting for an online suite at a post production facility called Alter Ego. In keeping with my general philosophy I'm going to try and incorporate a film theme.

Well it is the end of something...
I'm not exactly sure what? For most of you that know me, you'll know how incredibly important this is to me so, I feel somehow I have to do this moment justice. My farm...the farm that I grew up on officially sold tonight. It is the most beautiful place in the world to me. I grew up in a small town called Woodville living with my mother (Jean Victor), Grandpa (Norman MacIntyre) Grandma (Mildred MacIntyre) and Aunt (Dian MacIntyre). I can't express how proud I am to have grown up the way I did with such a wonderful family in such a beautiful place. I spent most of my childhood boiling hot dogs at the sale barn, painting fences, riding the tractor with my grandpa, bailing hay, playing with kitties and singing to the cows. I had the luxury of appreciating all of the things that surrounded me which are so often lost.

I am who I am today because of this wonderful home and someday I will go back home.

So this is what I've been working on for the last little while. These canvas' saw a lot of changes but we worked it out. It has been a while since I've put together an exhibit so this was a fantastic experience to get back on board. Unfortunately I don't have full sized pictures of the pieces just yet...it was a bit of a scramle to get them up on time but they will be up soon so you can see them up close with detail.

Studio

Well its been a long summer and I'll be honest I'm really looking forward to fall. I haven't produced any work this summer but its time to get back to work. I've just resigned from my position at Bruce Mau Design as project coordinator to start a new job at Starz Entertainment on the 17th working on a Tim Burton Feature. Oh yes, back to animation I go.

I have one month left in my studio space and am in the process of finishing up my fall display for the Lowon Pope window display which will also be a part of art carwl this year. I have a couple of shows lined up for the fall and winter so please stay posted for details.

I encourage my clients to participate in the creative process allowing them to give me suggestions and direction so they will be happy with the results.

Well I'm not exactly sure where this inspiration came from however I did watch a documentary last night about the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Central Africa. It went into great detail about the military power and the violence that exists in the area still as a result of the Congo war.

In todays globe and mail they published a doggie style article. The title of the article is "Pets are the new "design opportunities". They list a variety of high end designers such as Isaac Mizrahi who have caught on to the new trend of designing doggie accessories. I guess I've been on the right track too?

Commission Kitties

This is a commissioned three panel painting that I have just completed. This was one of the most challenging jobs I've done in a long time. It was really important for me to get the character of the two cats Pithy and Mr. Rumples. Stuart and Vanessa saw my work hanging at the Starbucks and wanted me to create protraits of their kitties using my bright colours and painting style.

Lovin' the cottage

Nothing beats bringing work to the cottage and in this case it truly is a treat. Here is a piece that I'm working on for the Woodward cottage. I've grown up at this cottage and try to get there as much as possible every summer. This is not your typical Muskoka cottage in fact it's rare to find such a cottage in this area. Erin's grandfather built it and was one of the original cottageers in the Muskoka area. Besides the odd fix up here and there it stands the test of time and maintains its charm.

Ok so here are a couple of paintings that I have been working on. The bottom is a commissioned painting and the other entirely for fun. I'm working towards a collection of cats and dogs for my next show. I've booked by event for Thursday, August 10 at no regrets restaurant on Mowat St. in Liberty village so please save the date I would love to see everyone out. Erin's rough book cover

Ok, so here is my rough idea for the book cover. This is of course a work in progress. I think that more simple you keep it the better off you are because then the writing doesn't compete with the background art. It is very obvious that this is a map and you can focus on design and style of the cover rather than any factual representations which I think can look a little cheap. This will of course need to be redesigned digitally which I will do if you decide that you like it. This image is actually so simple that if you decide to continue writting travelling books you could actually use this as a logo for branding. Let me know what you think.

Jeanette this is the palm tree you requested. I think this will go very well in your living room. It should really add some bright colour to the room. The colours look a little different here than they really are, the lime is a little more limy and the the purple a little more visible in real life. Let me know what you think, I hope you like it.

Barn Yard Collection

Formal and wedding dress designers Lana Lowon and Jim Pope are living in style amongst the animals. This photograph of their kitchen in Liberty Village is also the display space for their animal collection. Pigs and dead chickens are not as they seem, bright bold colours and fun painting style bring the space to life.

Starbucks @ Young and College

Another Starbucks show and what a great location. The store manager Micheal from the King and George location has moved on to this new location and after a successful show at the first location he asked me to hang at his new store. It was a little crazy getting things up because the store is always busy however because of my first experience I knew what to expect. There was of course a bit of a kink in the plan. When I began hanging the paintings I realized that the support bars were a different size than the ones and the previous location which meant that two of the paintings that I had brought didn't fit. I did manage to have a couple of paintings on hand at home so the two pieces on the left side were not origonally supposed to be up.
It creates a bit of a contrast of styles but I think it works. If you get a chance to swing by to check out the paintings be sure to grab a sweet passion iced tea. It is my new drink, they are fantastic.

Well I suppose we all wonder where the inspiration comes from however in my case there is never any doubt. The root of my work comes from my growing up on a farm in a small town. I grew up on a livestovk auction sale barn in the small town of Woodville. I'm sure that spending a lot of time alone also forced the creativity due to the fact that there we no children my age for miles. It also gave me a more enthusiatic and free aspect on life which is also very apparent in my work. This is an example of some the design work that I have been doing lately.

Abstract is back

This painting is inspired by an old bull skull hanging in my grandmother's garage. I remember the day the bull came to our farm when I was really young. I was an only child so I had to keep myself entertained and that always meant that I was hanging out with the animals whether it be my kitties, dogs or cows. One of my favourite things to do was go down to the field and put on Madonna concerts for the cows, they were a great audience. Of course being a little afraid of this bull I would keep back a little further then I was usual but I didn't want to disappoint the old heifers that were awaiting my entertainment. I was always so thrilled that they came over to watch me perform and truly believe that they loved my singing. I would of course get really into and belt it out at the top of my lungs so they could all hear me, just like any good performer. Unfortunately I now realize that they were just hungry and I displayed my talent at the edge of the fence where my grandpa would throw the feed over to them. After a while I became very fond of this bull too because he would come over with the rest of the heard. It has been hanging in the garage for years but it wasn't until my last trip home that I actually took notice of it hanging there amongst the gardening tools and old golf clubs. It reminded me of the "True blue baby I love you" song and dance routines. The image is extremely large 48 x 60 so there is no missing it.

How did I get in to this mess? Can you imagine being given the subject "Mum Bum" as an article topic in which you would need to create and interesting, colourful and fun representation to appeal to readers? Well, I managed to pull it off regardless of the unconventional theme. Funnily, after sharing my "Mum Bum" illustration, I was asked to create a design based on mens underwear for an article in a new Toronto magazine (TCHAD magazine), honestly how do I get myself into these things? I guess I'll have to put the canvas aside and focus on briefs!

Unconventional or simply ahead of her time...???

The goats, well it's an interesting
story but it wasn't long ago that I

iration for these goats came from.
When I was a young girl I actually
had a pet baby goat named Billy.
I lived on a livestock auction sale
barn so there were always animals
coming in and out. I've probably
managed to have every possible
animal as a pet when I was a young
girl living on the farm. I guess as
we grow older the things that we
once loved start to fade away and
just roll to the back of your mind.
As it turns out when you're an artist
and constantly looking for inspiration
those once loved things,people and
places are resurfaced.

The newest hottest thing to do...teaming up with a partner. The latest greatest on the art front is my new partnership with my favourite writer Erin Woodward. In her new funny and witty articles she creates a spin off sex in the city called sexless in the city. She tackles idea that not all women are out getting laid but rather looking and more official goals than just finding the next man of the week. With topics such as internet dating, what to wear, where to go, the search for a career and what does that actually mean, friends and the general issues of the twenty something gal living in the T dot. Along with each article I will be designing eye candy for the topic of the day. Posted with every article will be fun colourful image created by photoshoped drawings created by yours truly.

It is the colours that move you, the inspiration to create and the motivation to produce the work that explains it all. It’s been said that a picture can speak a thousand words and I suppose this is true however I choose to believe that it’s not words but a feeling and a sense of emotion. The emotions that drive people to do the work they do and if you’re lucky enough, love. I have found that over the years my relationship with my work has changed and is now no longer just an element of whom I am but everything that I am.

I have been working as a professional artist in Toronto for 2 years. My work can be seen in various locations around the city. Much of my work in 2005 was displayed in window spaces such as Lowon Pope, Pages bookstore, First Canadian Place and the Harbour Front centre. In 2006 I will be launching a website to promote higher profile installations and exhibits.

This painting is an addition to the new spring collection and now hangs at Lowon Pope on Queen W. This was originally not one of my favourite paintings however it seems to be drumming up the most comments.
